Woman claims video shows 'shark' swimming in Lake Michigan

Dec. 27 (UPI) -- A tourist walking on a Wisconsin beach captured video of something unusual in Lake Michigan that she said might have been a shark.

Carlin Hastings said she was visiting Milwaukee for the holidays when she captured video around 2:40 p.m. Friday that appears to show a shark-like shape in the water at McKinley Beach.

She said the big fish in her video, which she posted to Facebook, had a dorsal fin like a shark.

"Everyone I showed it to said it looked like a shark," Hastings told WISN-TV.

Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources spokeswoman Cheryl Masterson said the video isn't clear enough to make a positive identification of the creature.

"I can't say definitively what it is," she said.

Masterson suggested the suspected "shark" may have been an unusually large sturgeon or a chinook salmon.
