Dec. 26 (UPI) -- A Pennsylvania man who bought a lottery ticket on his wedding day checked it during his honeymoon and discovered it was a $50,000 winner.

The Bel Air couple, who claimed their winnings last week at Maryland Lottery headquarters, said the groom had just gotten his wedding haircut on the day of the ceremony when he picked up a Powerball ticket while picking up some snacks for his bride-to-be at the Royal Farms store in Fallston.

The groom said he was on their honeymoon when he remembered to check the ticket from the Dec. 13 drawing.

"I looked at my ticket and said, 'Why do my numbers match the numbers on my phone?'" the man said.

The couple jokingly dubbed themselves "The Thousandaires" when they claimed their prize.

"We're just so grateful for the last couple of days and this just makes it better," the couple said.
