Dec. 26 (UPI) -- A New York state police department shared video of a car being smashed by a train after the driver made a speedy escape from the vehicle.

The Clarkstown Police Department said in a Facebook post the car became stranded on the tracks at the crossing in Congers about 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

The video shows a southbound train smash into the car and push it down the tracks.

"Thankfully the sole occupant of the car was able to get away from the car before the train hit it," the post said. "The crossing was closed for an hour as a tow truck removed the car and a safety inspection was done on the tracks."
