Dec. 20 (UPI) -- A Wisconsin couple came to the rescue of a black bear that became trapped in its collapsed den when a farmer went over it with a combine.

Dan Solie, of Augusta, said he and his wife, Anne, went to a friend's property on Monday after the person, a farmer, told them they had accidentally caved-in a bear's den by going over it with a combine harvester.

Solie said the state Department of Natural Resources gave him the go-ahead to attempt a rescue and so he and his wife shoveled for about 20 minutes to free the bear.

Solie said the bear, which likely would have died if it hadn't had help escaping the ruins of its former home, was able to run off into the sunset without any signs of serious injury.
