Dec. 20 (UPI) -- A Texas mother who forgot she stashed her family's Elf on a Shelf in the oven shared the saga of Elfis' untimely demise.

Brittany Mease of Wylie said in a Facebook post that while she has never been a fan of the "creepy" Elf on a Shelf, she participates each year because it makes her young children happy.

Mease wrote that she had initially put Elfis on "bed rest" after he supposedly broke his leg tripping over her kids' toys that were left out, but her children pointed out that the 14-day bed rest period had ended and Elfis still hadn't moved.

"When they weren't looking I grabbed him off the kitchen counter and quickly tossed him in the oven until I could move him later and not raise any suspicion," she wrote.

Mease said she forgot about Elfis' hiding place until she was heating up lunch for the kids on Monday.

"That's when all hell broke loose and I broke my son's heart," Mease wrote.

Mease said her children were witness to Elfis' melting form as she tried to rescue him from the oven.

"I started to grab him out and the kids were like 'don't touch him, he'll lose his magic.' So I'm like 'crap, he's going to lose his magic,'" Mease told WFAA-TV.

Mease attempted to use utensils to lift Elfis, causing his head to pop right off his body.

Mease said her son, Gray, was distraught, but his 5-year-old sister, Ily, laughed at the elf's demise.

"No more snitches in the house," Mease said of the young girl's reaction.

Mease said she put in a call to Santa while her kids listened in and she asked St. Nick to come take Elfis for some emergency medical treatment.

The mother said in a follow-up post Tuesday that a "healed" Elfis was delivered to her children by Santa Claus, a moment she said the family will never forget.

"Even when they figure out that 'Santa isn't real' they will know that there's more to 'Santa' than just delivering presents," Mease wrote.
