Dec. 18 (UPI) -- A Pizza Hut restaurant in Virginia fired a worker who fulfilled a customer's request to write a joke on the pizza box -- but the joke was decidedly not family-friendly.

A Stafford mother said her 12 and 15-year-old kids placed an online order from the Pizza Hut on Jefferson Davis Highway recently and they requested employees write a joke on the box, a request the store had fulfilled for them in the past.

The woman shared a photo of the setup for the joke they received: "What do a pizza delivery driver and a gynecologist have in common?"

"I was really shocked and floored that Pizza Hut would send that type of joke out," she told WJLA-TV. "The employee even called and I told her that I hope she doesn't lose her job over this."

The employee called the family to apologize, but she was still fired by Pizza Hut.

"It's an inappropriate joke. There's a time and place for everything. My pizza box is not one of them. It's a lesson learned," the customer said.

The woman posted about the incident on social media, leading to backlash from some commenters.

"I hope you see it in that big, black heart of yours to call back and explain that you aren't upset. Days before Christmas you got someone fired," one person wrote.

The customer asked not to be named, saying the incident has led to her being cyber-bullied after the worker lost her job.
