Dec. 14 (UPI) -- A Tennessee church's preschool nativity play went spectacularly awry when a 2-year-old "sheep" kidnapped the baby Jesus from the manger.

Tana Benson posted a video to Facebook showing the First Baptist Church of White Pine's Nativity play, which featured her daughter, Teegan, 2, playing the role of sheep.

The video shows Teegan grab the baby Jesus out of the manger and dance with him while the young girl playing Mary struggled to regain control of the holy infant and the play.

The scene sparked a wave of uncontrollable laughter through the crowd.

"She just really wanted that baby Jesus," Benson told Today.com. "Teegan loves being the center of attention, so the more people laughed, the more excited she was to show her stuff."

She said the parents and other spectators were laughing so hard they had trouble eating at the reception following the performance.

"The little girl playing Mary is a middle child and a real stickler for the rules, and she knew that was not supposed to happen," Benson said. "When I went up to take Teegan's hand and walk her off the stage, the little girl playing Mary said, 'She touched the baby Jesus! We weren't supposed to touch the baby Jesus!' I told her we were sorry!"
