Dec. 13 (UPI) -- A Texas police department said a Christmas tree thief dubbed the "Whataburger Grinch" returned the conifer to the store.

The Seguin Police Department said in a Facebook post that the man who took the Christmas tree from a Whataburger restaurant in Seguin returned the tree to the store and the gesture was recorded by security cameras.

Police said the man later visited the station, where he agreed to perform some community service as punishment for the theft.

The department detailed the case in the form of a Dr. Seuss-style poem.

"Just like the Grinch in Whoville that year, He wound up finding his Christmas cheer. Our local guy, who stole from Whataburger on a dare, Returned the short tree, which is actually quite rare. To those who might steal this Christmas year, We ask that you rather give some Christmas cheer.

PS. Grinch did come in to the Seguin Police station and will be doing 'community service' for his dastardly deeds, which seems appropriate seeing as Christmas grace is what he needs."
