Dec. 12 (UPI) -- A Scottish farmer said a nearly 900-pound water buffalo jumped a fence on his property and has been on the run for days.

Steve Mitchell, owner of The Buffalo Farm in Kirkcaldy, Fife, said the 1-year-old water buffalo jumped a fence while being weighed at Clentrie Farm in Auchterool.

Mitchell posted on Facebook that the buffalo was spotted on a road in the early hours of Tuesday near the Shawsmill Farm in Lochgelly.

"He has been spotted unfortunately we have not got him home yet," Mitchell wrote. "He appeared on the road very close to Shawsmill Farm."

"Unfortunately we couldn't persuade him to go into the sheds but have got him into a field nearby. We have put some silage in with him and hope he will settle tonight. Unfortunately the fences in that field are not the best as it's not a normal livestock field but fingers crossed he is still there in the morning. The plan will be to take a quiet calm buffalo down to him and all being well walk them both home."

Mitchell posted another update later Tuesday morning saying the buffalo had left the field.

"Unfortunately it seems that a 30 acre field was not good enough for our elusive Buffalo and he was up early doors this morning and has moved on again. He was looking quite settled last night laying down after a feed on the silage that we brought him, but this one likes to keep us on our toes."
