Dec. 7 (UPI) -- A man rescued a wild rabbit from a raging wildfire at the side of a California highway and the daring deed was caught on camera by a witness.

The video, recorded at the side of Highway 1 in La Conchita, shows a man chasing a wild rabbit that ran across the road as the flames of the Thomas Fire rage just feet away.

The man attempts to coax the rabbit out of the brush, where it is in danger of being engulfed by the fire, and becomes noticeably emotional when the bunny gets too close to the flames.

The rescuer then makes the dangerous decision to wade into the brush and carries the rabbit away from the fire.

Wildfires have burned through more than 100,000 acres in California.
