Dec. 7 (UPI) -- A Florida couple on their way to pick up some takeout spotted a massive snake at the side of the road -- and there turned out to be another one nearby.

Kevin Dinger and Alyssa Barry said they were driving down a road in Naples on Tuesday night to pick up some food from Texas Roadhouse when they spotted something at the side of the road that they initially thought was a tree branch.

Barry soon realized the object was moving.

"I said to him, 'That's a snake,' and he jumped out of the car immediately," Barry told WBBH/WZVN.

Dinger grabbed the 11-foot python by the tail, but he let go when the serpent turned to face him.

"I was like, 'All right, man, you can do whatever you want to do. You're a little bigger than me, so I don't want to mess with you right now,'" Dinger told the Naples Daily News.

Dinger contacted the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and 911, which dispatched Collier County sheriff's deputies to the scene.

The deputies quickly discovered the massive snake wasn't alone.

"He goes, 'There's two! Go over there and look right now.' I jumped out of the car," Barry said.

Dinger said the second snake was about 6 feet long.

"That was a baby compared to the other one," Dinger said.

Deputies killed both invasive snakes.

The couple said they were shocked to see pythons in such an urban area.

"In the middle of the main community that's clearly lit up and there's people everywhere," Barry said.
