Nov. 21 (UPI) -- A Maryland man who stopped for a pee break on his way to work ended up buying a lottery ticket that won him $50,000.

The 49-year-old Bel Air man told Maryland Lottery officials he was halfway to work Monday morning when he made a pit stop at the Perry Hall BP station in Baltimore to use the restroom.

"One too many cups of coffee, I guess," the man said.

The salesman said he stopped to use the scratch-off ticket vending machine while walking back to his car.

"I play scratch-offs every once in a while, and all of my recent tickets have been the $2,000,000 Fortune game," he said.

The man said he bought two of the $30 tickets and was shocked when he scratched off the first ticket to reveal a $50,000 prize.

"When the cashier confirmed the prize for me he gave me a high-five. It was a great moment," he said.

The man said he suddenly remembered to scratch off his second ticket and discovered he had won an additional $100 prize.

"The $50,000 blew me away," he said. "But when the other ticket gave me $100 more, it was just astounding."

The winner said his windfall will go toward giving his three kids an extra-special Christmas and funding a family vacation he is planning for next year.
