Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe Nov. 21 (UPI) -- A 20,000-pound granite sculpture dropped by a crane in Florida destroyed a flatbed truck and punched a hole in the street below. The sculpture, one of two 20,000-pound hunks of granite that form part of a 40-ton sculpture by Puerto Rico-based artists Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla, was being unloaded from a truck at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Miami on Monday when a cable snapped on the crane. Advertisement The sculpture fell hard onto the flatbed trailer, destroying it and punching a hole in the road below. The granite block was eventually lifted off the trailer and appeared to be intact. The Institute of Contemporary Art has been installing artworks during the past few days in advance of its planned opening Dec. 1. "The Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami filed for all necessary permits to temporarily close NE 42nd street today during the installation of an artwork in our sculpture garden," the institute said in a statement provided to the Miami Herald. "A crane malfunction occurred during the installation process, causing damage to a truck transporting part of a sculpture. There were no injuries sustained, and no impact on surrounding property was reported. Advertisement The artwork's installation has resumed and the street will be reopened by the end of [Monday].
