Nov. 21 (UPI) -- Police in Wisconsin said an escape artist dog managed to fly the coop at an animal hospital and turned up on his owner's patio.

Oak Creek police responded just after 10 p.m. Sunday to the Brentwood Animal Hospital, where a dog had vanished during a suspected break-in.

Police said they found the front door of the facility was slightly ajar, a glass deadbolt door was unlocked and nothing was missing other than the boxer named Bear.

Hospital staff told police Bear was notorious for escaping and his kennel had been outfitted with zip ties for extra security, but he apparently managed to escape anyway.

Police contacted bear's owner, who told police she returned from a vacation about 5:30 p.m. that same day to find Bear waiting for her on the patio at her home.

Police reviewed security camera footage from the owner's home and saw bear walk up to the house about two hours before the woman arrived home.

Investigators said they do not know how Bear managed to escape or how he found his way home.

A blind dog named Sage escaped earlier this year from her family's California home and wandered for seven days in the Santa Cruz mountains.

Owner Beth Cole said she had almost given up hope of ever finding the blind Labrador retriever due to cold temperatures and mountain lion sightings in the area, but Sage was found by some hikers seven days after wandering away from home.
