Nov. 19 (UPI) -- An Australian firefighter trying to remove a snake from the middle of the road ended up fleeing the serpent when it "took offense" to his prodding.

A video posted to Facebook by the Chittaway Rural Fire Brigade on Saturday shows a senior deputy attempting to convince a snake to get out of the middle of a road in the Ourimbah State Forest.

The man pokes at the snake with a stick to urge it to slither forward, but the danger noodle turns quickly to face the firefighter, leading him to quickly flee.

The firefighter's colleagues can be heard laughing from the safety of a nearby vehicle as he runs in fear.

The man returns to the snake a moment later and prods it with the stick until the animal is safely off the road.

"It seems this scaly critter took offense to our Senior Deputy trying to move him off the road to safety during today's fire fighting operations in Ourimbah State Forest," the post said.
