Nov. 16 (UPI) -- A Florida man who said he shot a crocodile because it had killed people's pets this week was arrested for resisting arrest.

Residents in Key West, Fla. called police after they saw a man shoot an animal believed to be a crocodile from a Chevy Silverado pickup truck, according to the Keys Reporter. Police then went to the house where the truck was parked to investigate, where they found 51-year-old Bond Ferrer.

At first, Ferrer denied shooting the crocodile, which is listed as an endangered species. But police found no other trucks matching callers' descriptions, so they pressed him and asked if he owned any guns. Ferrer said he owned a .380 caliber pistol and said he'd bring it out for the police to check it. Police also said that neighbors saw someone firing a gun from a truck that looked like his.

"Bond Ferrer became very upset and began listing neighbors whose animals were killed by the crocodile," police wrote in their report.

Moments later, Ferrer came back with a .45-caliber pistol. Police pulled their guns on him and ordered him to set his weapon down. But Ferrer allegedly didn't do so until after he took the magazine out.

According to WFLA, police said Ferrer charged at them and yelled curse words while they patted him down on his property.
