Nov. 15 (UPI) -- A North Carolina woman played the lottery twice in one day this week -- and came away with winning tickets each time.

Michelle Shuffler, of Granite Falls, bought two tickets worth $10,000 and $1 million each, at stores 22 miles apart Sunday. She and her husband, who "don't normally play the lottery," bought the second ticket after noticing their first ticket was a $10,000-winner, Shuffler said.

Shuffler said she was in "complete disbelief" after winning the first prize. She and her husband wanted to test the odds one more time.

"We saw that the game had a million dollar prize," Shuffler said. "So we decided, 'Why not try to beat the odds again?'"

Shuffler plans to use the money to help put her children through college and prepare for her retirement.

For the time being, she said she's still amazed at her winnings.

"It's quite astonishing," Shuffler said.
