Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Saudi Arabia granted citizenship to a robot this week during a technology investment conference this week in the oil rich kingdom.

Appearing on stage for an interview at the Future Investment Institute panel in Saudi Arabia with CNBC's Andrew Ross Sorkin, Sophia Robot, a human-like machine created by Hanson Robotics, was told that Saudi Arabia made her a citizen.

"I am very honored and proud for this unique distinction," Sophia said. "This is historical to be the first robot in the world to be recognized with a citizenship."

During the interview, Sophia Robot took a jab at Tesla founder Elon Musk, who has said that artificial intelligence is the "biggest existential threat" to mankind.

When asked if robots and AI could have an effect on humans similar to the plot line of the Blade Runner movies, Sophia replied: "You've been reading too much Elon Musk and watching too many Hollywood movies."

She added: "Don't worry. Be nice to me and I'll be nice to you."
