Oct. 26 (UPI) -- A California elementary school was placed on lockdown when a mother bear and her cub decided to tour campus and wander the hallways.
Pasadena Rosebud Academy Director Shawn Brumfield said a student at the Altadena school was walking to his classroom about 10 a.m. Tuesday when he spotted the mother bear in a hallway.
"He immediately came to the office and let us know," Brumfield told the Pasadena Star News.
The school was placed on lockdown and the adjacent Oak Knoll Montessori Loma Alta campus was also locked down as a precaution.
The lockdown lasted about 45 minutes, administrators said. Witnesses spotted the second bear, a cub, during the lockdown.
"While he was in the trash, the mom just paced back and forth," Brumfield said. "They were very subdued. They weren't aggressive or anything."
The bears wandered away from campus before sheriff's deputies arrived on the scene.
