Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Chef's in Cape Verde claimed a Guinness World Record after making a massive pot of cachupa stew.

Cape Verde's prime minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, was on hand as a group of more than a dozen chefs made the record-breaking 14,021-pound pot of the traditional stew at the ninth "Badja ku Sol" festival in Praia.

"We expect it to be a great promotion of Cape Verdean gastronomy -- and in particular the cachupa -- worldwide," he said. "We hope it has a great impact and that through this event we can promote our special and traditional gastronomy that is cachupa and our country."

The stew was made using 1,322 pounds of corn, 220 pounds of chicken, and 661pounds of pork mixed in with large heaps of beans and vegetables.

More than 30,000 people got the chance to sample small bowls of the massive serving of cachupa stew, as adjudicators confirmed the record.

"We are proud of this achievement and I believe it can be considered an example of the determination of Cape Verdeans people to innovate and to want to be with the best in the world," event organizer, Hernidia Tavares, said.
