Oct. 18 (UPI) -- A California mom said her child's request for a Popsicle set off a series of events that ended with her winning a $750,000 lottery jackpot.

Mai Thao told California Lottery officials she was out and about with her kids recently when one of them requested a frozen treat.

Thao said she stopped at the Golden Feather Marketplace to fulfill the Popsicle request, and while there she decided to buy some lottery tickets.

The mother said she prefers $3 Scratchers, but the store didn't have any, so she decided to splurge on a $10 Mystery Crossword Scratcher.

Thao said the ticket turned out to be a $750,000 winner.

"I couldn't believe it," Thao said. "When I checked it, I still didn't believe it. I'm never this lucky."

She said it took a while for the truth of her win to sink in.

"My life will change a lot for the better," she said.
