Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Wildlife catchers were called to a South Carolina elementary school to capture a 7-1/2-foot alligator that planted itself in the school drop-off line.

Matt Kraycar of K&K Wildlife Services of Bluffton said he was called Tuesday morning to Bluffton Elementary School at the same time his wife was dropping their two children off at the school.

The school said the alligator had taken up residence where parents are usually asked to drop off students.

"Parents for car riders at the main building, please be patient this morning. We have an alligator visiting the front entrance by the pond so we have to reroute the drop off for everyone's safety," the school said in a Facebook post.

Kraycar said the male alligator appeared to have spent some time stuck in a fenced-off area.

"He was pretty scratched up," Kraycar told the Hilton Head Island Packet.

He posted a photo of the alligator's capture to K&K's Facebook page.

The trapper said the alligator may have been drawn to the property by the school's retention pond. He said the reptile was relocated to an area several miles from the school.
