Florida police capture alligator lurking outside high school

Oct. 17 (UPI) -- A Florida police officer narrated a colleague's efforts to capture an alligator found in a flooded grassy area at a local high school.

The Cocoa Police Department said Officers Baez and Wade responded Wednesday to a call about an alligator spotted in a flooded area near Cocoa High School's parking lot.

A video posted to the department's Facebook page last week shows Baez wading into the water to capture the gator while Wade provides running commentary.

"Commence attack!" Wade says. "Don't be scared of that 8-footer behind you."

Baez spots the small alligator in the water and carefully approaches from behind.

"Behind the head now," Wade says.

Baez does as instructed and grabs the gator behind its head, allowing him to carry it to a nearby lake for release.

"From the 'Never a Dull Moment' Files: Officer Xavier Baez responded to a call for help at Cocoa High yesterday," the Facebook post reads. "Turns out it was a small gator in the parking lot. Call a gator trapper? Nah. He's always wanted to be the real life 'Crocodile Hunter.' Officer Baez, with Officer Wade narrating, entered into the ankle-deep water of a flooded yard, patiently stalked his prey until ... watch the video and see for yourself but DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!
