Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Officials in a Chinese district apologized for pranking visitors to a 3,871-foot-high glass walkway with a floor shattering illusion.

A video that went viral on Chinese social media shows a man appearing to panic on the glass walkway around Taihang Mountain in Hebei, China, when the floor appears to crack beneath him.

The supposed shattering is accompanied by the sounds of breaking glass, but officials said the appearance is only an illusion.

The East Taihang district administration issued an official apology for any concern caused by the trick, which they said was designed to enhance the experience of walking 3,871 feet over the ground.

The district said it does not plan to remove the digital screens that create the illusion.
