Lottery ticket gift wins Maryland birthday celebrant $50,000

Oct. 9 (UPI) -- A Maryland woman's birthday party turned out to bring her more than just joy when a lottery ticket she received as a gift won her $50,000.

The 31-year-old Queen Anne's County woman told Maryland Lottery officials her friends know she is a fan of the Baltimore Ravens and scratch-off lottery tickets, so her birthday party featured numerous $5 Ravens scratch-offs being given to her by guests.

The woman said she decided to scratch off one of the tickets before she went to bed that right and the ticket turned out to be a $50,000 winner.

"Things like this don't happen to me," the woman said.

She said she plans to pay off her bills and send her parents on an international vacation.
