Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe Oct. 3 (UPI) -- A tiger escaped from its cage at a circus in China and went on the run for nearly an hour in a rural area of Hubei province. Police confirmed the tiger escaped from an improperly locked cage after finishing a show with the Jiangsu-based acrobatic circus about 5 p.m. Monday and fled into rural Chongyang county. Advertisement Police were summoned by circus employees and about a dozen officers from Tiancheng police station responded to the scene to help handlers wrangle the big cat. The tiger, which was said to be 2 years old and tame, was cornered by a brick wall and recaptured. The tiger has been with the circus for about a year and performs tricks including jumping through rings of fire. The circus, which had been in town since Friday for a series of shows, was instructed to pack up and leave town by police. The organization was given a warning about its security procedures, but no fines were levied.
