Oct. 2 (UPI) -- A Virginia man who instructed a store clerk to choose a random scratch-off lottery ticket ended up winning $225,000.
David Strawderman told Virginia Lottery officials he was on a winning streak with Scratcher games, so he decided to keep the string going and asked a clerk to use his winnings to buy another ticket.
"Pick my one," Strawderman recalled telling the clerk at the 7-Eleven store in Waynesboro.
The clerk handed Strawderman a $5 In the Money ticket, which he scratched off the reveal the $225,000 top prize.
"I went all numb," he said. "I was completely shocked."
Strawderman said he does not yet have a plan for spending his windfall.
