Sept. 22 (UPI) -- A Colorado police officer was "pawsitively surprised" when a raccoon jumped onto the hood of his moving patrol car while he was en route to an accident scene.

The Colorado Springs Police Department said in a Facebook post that Officer Frabbiele was driving to the scene of an accident Wednesday night when the freeloading trash panda hitched a ride on the hood of his car.

"Officer Frabbiele discovered that raccoons do come out at night and was pawsitively surprised when one ended up on his windshield," the department said.

The post included a photo of the raccoon as the car was in motion, as well as two photos from after the officer was able to carefully stop the vehicle.

"He found a safe place to pull over and snapped the other two photos of the hitchhiker. #codethreecoon #raccoonridealong #hopethisroadhasbeenrepaved," the post said.
