Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Police in Florida said two men were arrested for attempting to drive off with a utility pole on top of their SUV.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office tweeted a photo showing two handcuffed men sitting on the curb next to the SUV with a JEA utility pole balanced on the roof.

"These two were caught stealing a JEA pole just this morning! Citizens watching out and officers cleaning up = partnership!" the tweet said.

The sheriff's office indicated the pole might have been felled by Hurricane Irma before the men attempted to take it.

One of the men allegedly told a responding officer they were moving the pole to a safer location because it was lying on the ground near the road.

The pole, valued at $2,500, was turned over to utility company JEA.
