Sept. 14 (UPI) -- A couple out on a kayaking trip in New Jersey stopped to save a struggling seagull from some fishing gear and recorded the rescue on video.

The uploader, Heather, said she and her husband were heading home after a day of kayaking in Point Pleasant when they spotted a bird floating in the water.

"Me; lover of all animals, had to paddle up to it and make sure everything was okay. Come to find out.... it was not," Heather wrote.

The video shows the couple working to carefully untangle the seagull from a crab trap line.

Heather said she hopes the video will serve as a reminder to be aware of the potential consequences of leaving crab traps and fishing line behind.
