Sept. 8 (UPI) -- A Michigan man combined some state pride with craftiness to create a state-shaped chair with a beer-dispensing Upper Peninsula.

Matt Thompson of Garden City said his original wooden chair in the shape of Michigan's Lower Peninsula featured an Upper Peninsula-shaped table, but he wanted to improve on the design to put the U.P. above the chair where it belongs.

Thompson posted a video of the finished Michigan Beer Chair, which features an Upper Peninsula that dispenses cans of beer directly to his armrest.

"It's ridiculous. But still that's what's kinda cool about it," Thompson told Mlive.com. "I had this vision and the cool thing was I have the skills to put it together. It was rewarding to see people think it's just as cool as I thought it was."

Thompson said it took about $400-$500 worth of cedar wood to build the chair.

"It's not very practical to sell this or mass produce this," Thompson said.

He said the chamber inside the Upper Peninsula holds six cans and will keep them chilled for about eight hours.

Thompson said he currently has no plans to sell replicas of the chair, due to the amount of time and money they require.

"I'm holding out hope that a Michigan brewer might get a hold of me," Thompson said.
