Sept. 8 (UPI) -- An Idaho man said a female antelope acting unusually led him to rescuing her mate from a barbed wire fence nearby.

Bret Lee said he was driving near the town of Spencer when he spotted the female pronghorn antelope standing at the side of the road.

"Usually they run off when you get close to them, so I thought something was wrong," he told the Idaho State Journal.

Lee said he stopped his vehicle and quickly noticed another antelope on the ground nearby with two of its legs caught in a barbed wire fence.

"He was flopping around pretty good," Lee said. "He wouldn't have made it very long. It was a hot afternoon."

Lee retrieved a pair of wire cutters and used his cellphone to film video as he freed the antelope from its predicament.

"I chose a wire, held the camera and did everything I could not to get kicked at the same time," he said.

The antelope was able to climb back to its feet after a single cut and run off into the wild.
