Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Police in Los Angeles are seeking to identify a pair of "bird poop bandits" using avian droppings as a distraction to pickpocket pedestrians.

The Los Angeles Police Department said the suspects, a man and a woman that appear to be between 35 and 40 years old, approached a man in the Hollywood area and told him there was bird poop on his back.

The pair lifted the man's wallet from his pocket while pretending to wipe feces from the back of his shirt.

Police said a second incident involved the "bird poop bandits" taking a man's camera out of his backpack.

The pair were seen leaving in a silver Nissan Rogue with paper plates.

Police released security camera photos of the suspects and asked that anyone who recognizes the pair contact investigators.
