Sept. 6 (UPI) -- A Maryland zoo said an owl that escaped when a tree fell and damaged its enclosure has been found a month later and is recovering.

The Salisbury Zoo told WMDT zookeepers performing routine animal care activities spotted the escaped owl inside the facility last week and were able to capture the bird.

The spectacled owl escaped when a storm caused a tree to fall on its enclosure in late July.

It was taken to the zoo's animal health facility, where veterinarians determined the female bird did not appear to be injured, but was acting sluggish and had lost weight.

Officials said the owl appeared to become more active after being given food and water.

The zoo held an event Thursday night to raise money for repairs to the exhibit. Mayor Jake Day announced at the event that the owl had been recaptured and was recovering from its time on the loose.
