Poorly placed UPS package leaves man trapped in apartment

Sept. 5 (UPI) -- A poorly placed UPS package left a California man trapped inside his fifth-floor apartment this weekend.

Jessie Lawrence shared a photo of the long Amazon package that was placed horizontally under his doorknob, making it impossible for him to open the door.

"Hey UPS, your driver left this package under our door knob like this and trapped us in our apartment," he wrote. "Had to call maintenance to get out."

Maintenance eventually came to Lawrence's rescue, but he noted that the package mishap could have caused serious trouble.

"Sure, it's inconvenient for us to call someone to get us out but if it were an emergency, we would have been screwed. We're 5 floors up," he wrote.

UPS Customer Support reached out to Lawrence to offer an apology, although it contained a typo.

"I'm sorry your for this," the tweet read. "I'll be glad to assist you."
