Scottish 'Cat Controller' delights railway passengers

Aug. 29 (UPI) -- A friendly cat in Scotland known for greeting passengers at a railway station in Scotland has earned a special role at a local hospital.

The black and white Hyndland Station Cat which locals in Glasgow named Kyle, was given his very own ID card after making frequent visits to the nearby Gartnavel Hospital.

"Wow! Just been appointed Honorary Purrrfessor of Gartnavel Hospitals! Do you like my new ID with Beatson Charity lanyard?" the Hyndland Station Cat's Twitter page said.

Kyle began hanging around Hyndland station in Glasgow about a year ago and delighted travelers and staff alike.

"He's kept us entertained most mornings," station employee Katy Hanlon, 27, told STV News. "He is super friendly, he'll plonk himself down in the middle of the path or he'll follow people until he gets attention."

Fans of the friendly cat voted to give him the title of "The Cat Controller," as he mingles with passersby and defends the station from other intruders.

"He has a strict on the lead policy," Hanlon said. "I actually know of a Dalmation that's petrified of him. He refuses to walk by there."

Hanlon said Kyle has a few female fans at the hospital who feed the cat.

"He's got a few women on the go at the hospital, he seems to be getting fed four times a day," she said.

Some travelers hope the charming cat can earn an official position with the station, but the railway has a few concerns about his work ethic.

"Kyle really is the cat's pajamas. We're purr-ty pleased that there's a security 'catrol' taking place at all hours of the day to enhance our team's efforts," a ScotRail Alliance spokesperson said. "He does seem to spend a lot of time sleeping though."
