Aug. 25 (UPI) -- A speedy squirrel made its bid to join a National Football League roster after sprinting onto the field during a preseason game on Thursday.

The Philadelphia Eagles shared video of the squirrel that dashed about 15 yards during a break in their game against the Miami Dolphins before laying low to take a rest.

"This game is getting nuts," the team wrote.

The team's Twitter account pointed out that the squirrel may have inspired the Eagles to improve their play, as they went on to score 14 unanswered points after its appearance.

It was unclear what happened to the squirrel after its moment in the spotlight, but the Eagles announced they had opened a spot on their roster for the field intruder.

"Roster Move: The Eagles sign the squirrel, release Matt McGloin," the team said.
