Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Firefighters in England helped rescue a fox that became trapped after falling into the bottom of a well on Tuesday.

A Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals officer spotted the fox at the bottom of the well at about 7:20 p.m. after it fell down the small opening largely surrounded by grass.

The officer quickly called South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue for assistance getting the fox out of the deep well.

Tankersley Blue Watch lowered a ladder into the well and climbed down to rescue the fox.

The fox was later cared for by the animal society, which said it was mostly just exhausted after the incident.

On Wednesday South Yorkshire Fire said the fox was fine after receiving food water and a medical exam and shared video of it being released back into the wild.
