Aug. 23 (UPI) -- An industrious squirrel was spotted carrying an entire slice of pizza along a sidewalk in Washington, D.C.

Drew Olsen snapped photos of the squirrel "munching away at a slice of plain cheese pizza" near a gas station Monday and decided to share the unusual sight on Reddit.

"It was a busy street, but I was seemingly the only person that fully understood the piece of history that we were all witnessing," Olsen told Fox 5.

The squirrel stood near the edge of the sidewalk with the massive pizza slice clutched safely in its mouth as Olsen documented the momentous event.

Washington's "Pizza Squirrel" brought up memories of New York's legendary "Pizza Rat", which became viral after dragging a large slice of pizza down a flight of stairs two years ago.

Georgia residents were also treated to the site of their very own "Pizza Squirrel" earlier this month at a local park.

Eventually Olsen's presence seemed to spook the impressive squirrel, that scurried off with its precious pizza slice intact.

"Luckily he allowed me to snap a couple photos before running off, with the slice still in his jaws," Olsen told the Washingtonian.
