Aug. 23 (UPI) -- British fashion designer Julien Macdonald collaborated with fast food chain McDonald's to create a special jewel-encrusted hamburger box.
The limited edition designer boxes will be made available at special events to celebrate the expansion of the McDonald's "Signature Collection" of burgers throughout the United Kingdom.
"Thrilled to collaborate with McDonald's U.K. to create a bespoke box to celebrate the roll out of The Signature Collection of burgers," Macdonald said.
Only 1,000 of the boxes will be produced and McDonald's fans will be able to sign up on the restaurant's website for the opportunity to win the special box, the Standard reported.
Macdonald's designs have been worn by celebrities including Taylor Swift, Victoria Beckham and Kate Moss and he said the fast food collaboration offered a new challenge.
"This was something different and as a designer I am always looking for different things to do," he said. "The inspiration for the design came from baroque embroidery and furniture I like. The original is covered in real crystals and all different kinds of metallics and colors."
Macdonald hopes the unique and funny design collaboration will become a silly talking pieces as well as something that collectors covet.
"This is for people to look at and smile and make them happy and something to be a talking point," he said. "I like funny things and things that make me laugh and if I saw a McDonalds box covered in jewels and embellished it would make me laugh - it is positive and lighthearted and everyone will like it."
