Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe Aug. 23 (UPI) -- A family barbecuing in Tennessee captured video of their tense encounter with a black bear that appeared intent on stealing the food cooking on their grill. Deena Williamson posted a video to YouTube showing the black bear approaching the patio outside the cabin where she and her family were staying last week in Tennessee. Advertisement Williamson can be heard asking a man to "let the food burn" and "call the police" while he shouts at the bear to stay away from the surf and turf cooking on the grill. The bear, undeterred, walks up to the grill, causing the man to shout louder and splash the animal with his beverage. The bruin paws at the grill and the cooking food multiple times before singeing its paw when some flames shoot up through the grate. The bear temporarily backs off the grill, giving the man time to rescue a steak. A second man, Williamson's father, joins the efforts to ward the bear away from the shrimp remaining on the grill. The bear appears to finally learn its lesson when an attempt to take some food from the grill causes grease to fall on the flames and shoot heat into the animal's face. Advertisement The barbecue turns out to not have been entirely unprofitable for the bear, however, as it did end up with one of the family's steaks.
