Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Thieves made off with a sweet haul after nabbing tons of chocolates and other treats from a trailer in Germany.

About 20 tons of cargo, including Kinder eggs and Nutella spread, worth about 70,000 euros ($81,936 USD), were stolen from a truck some time between Saturday and Sunday.

"Anyone offered large quantities of chocolate via unconventional channels should report it to the police immediately," police warned.

The theft occurred in the German town of Neustadt and police said a truck would have been necessary to complete the massive heist.

Police were unsure whether the thieves had targeted the sweet cargo, or merely seized an opportunity to steal the chocolates.

Authorities are also investigating if the crime is related to the theft of an empty trailer in the city of Weimar that was stolen over the weekend.
