Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Passengers on a Greyhound bus said their six-hour ride from Denver to Texas was made unbearable by an overflowing toilet that sent feces into the aisle.

Riders on the bus from Denver to Amarillo said they were about 15 minutes into the trip Monday when an offensive odor started to radiate from the bathroom.

"A stench filled the entire bus and everyone started gagging and covering their face," passenger Lisa Burns told KVII-TV. "I actually walked down to the back of the bus to use the restroom and I looked down and there were brown footprints everywhere."

The passengers said they soon discovered the toilet was overflowing and sending human waste into the passenger area.

"I was sitting in the rear of the bus right where the stuff was," passenger David Moore said. "I got feces on my shoes and all my personal belongings because it was literally right in the aisle way."

Burns said multiple passengers complained to the driver, but nothing was done about the issue during the six-hour bus ride.

Greyhound refused to comment on the incident.

"If you ever opened up a septic tank that was overly filled and been rancid for some time," Moore said of the stench. "Just like taking a lid off of a septic tank."

The incident came after a Greyhound bus in the New Jersey Turnpike caught fire while in transit Aug. 3. The passengers were evacuated and no injuries were reported.
