New York brewery introduces transit-inspired 'Delayed' beer

Aug. 9 (UPI) -- A New York-based brewery poked fun at delays in local mass transit by crafting a rail-inspired beer.

Blue Point Brewing Company introduced its new "Delayed" pilsner, inspired by recent delays on the Long Island Rail Road in the New York City area.

"We brewed the ultimate Pilsner to help you through the Summer of Hell." Blue Point Brewing said.

The special edition beer, which features a label inspired by the railway's schedule board, will be made available exclusively at Penn Station in Manhattan.

"Myself, our brewers and our employees have spent a lot of time 'delayed' in Penn Station waiting for the train back to Long Island, albeit with a beer happily in hand," Blue Point President Todd Ahsmann told the Long Island Press. "Since the delays are expected to increase during construction, we figured we would brew a beer perfect for that extended wait ... This beer should hold you over while you wait for the train but provide just enough bite to keep you critical of current state of transit."

Ashmann said he wanted to craft a beer that was easy to drink, but also reflected the frustration with the slow transit schedules.

"We wanted something a little more drinkable, and we wanted a little bit of bitterness to represent the mood that most people at Penn have right now," he told the New York Post.

The beer will be available at Penn Station beginning Aug. 14 and Ashmann said an additional run may be needed to wait out the end of the transit delay.

"I'll believe it when I see it," he said. "We will brew another batch in a month in anticipation of it being longer than expected."
