CCTV catches man in wheelchair holding onto car for wild ride

Aug. 4 (UPI) -- British police released CCTV footage of a man in a wheelchair clinging to a car as it pulled him home from a bar.

The North Yorkshire Police posted a video to YouTube showing the car traveling down Harrogate, England, roads while the man in the wheelchair holds onto the back and is pulled along.

The video shows the man in the wheelchair lose his grip at one point and the car has to reverse so he can reattach himself.

Police identified the driver in the early Jan. 28 incident as Michael Ward, 20, and the man in the wheelchair was identified as William MacPherson, 38.

The CCTV footage shows the two men talking about the Moko Lounge Bar just prior to the stunt.

Ward pleaded guilty July 20 in Harrogate Magistrates Court to a charge of dangerous driving. His license was revoked for 20 months and he was ordered to complete 200 hours of community service. He was also fined $100 in court costs and ordered to pay a $100 victim's surcharge.

MacPherson pleaded guilty at the same hearing to a charge of holding onto a vehicle for the purpose of being drawn. He was fined $200 and ordered to pay $40 in court costs and a $40 victim's surcharge.
