Capt. Bo Daniel said all present were surprised to see a large mako shark hooked instead.

"My deckhand Steven ran up to the bow with a mackerel and the fish bit it immediately, put on a hell of a show," Daniel told KABC-TV.

The "show" involved the shark jumping through the air to escape from the line.

"This giant almost did a back flip into the boat!" the Facebook post said.
