Aug. 2 (UPI) -- A Maryland zoo is searching for an escaped owl that got out of its enclosure when a fallen tree damaged the exhibit.

The Salisbury Zoo said in a Facebook post the spectacled owl exhibit was damaged when a large maple tree fell and caused significant damage to the enclosure structure.

The post said no zoo workers or guests were injured when the tree fell.

Two spectacled owls, a species native to southern Mexico and South America, were rescued from the enclosure after being trapped by the fallen tree, while a third owl escaped.

"Zoo staff are currently attempting to locate and recapture the owl. Spectacled owls are smaller than our native great horned owls and do not pose any threat to area residents. Thanks for your support!" the zoo said.
