July 31 (UPI) -- An alligator spotted wandering an upstate New York town has been captured by environmental officials and is headed for a new home at a zoo.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation said the alligator, which Whitney Point Mayor Ryan Reynolds warned residents to be on the lookout for in a July 23 Facebook post, was captured Saturday behind the fairgrounds in the town.
The gator was taken to Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, the zoo made famous by the long pregnancy of April the giraffe.
The park said the alligator will go on display to the public after a quarantine period.
"Animal education and appreciation is our top priority at Animal Adventure Park," said Jordan Patch, owner of Animal Adventure. "We are thrilled to be able to provide this animal with a safe, appropriate environment and the home it deserves."
