July 30 (UPI) -- A pair of filmmakers on a fishing charter boat off Western Australia captured rare footage of a crocodile sneak-attacking a shark.

Christian Kennedy and Jadranko Silic said they were aboard the charter boat as it cruised the Kimberly coast as part of a week-long fishing expedition in early June when the crew members decided to toss some fish scraps off the boat.

"The boat crew were filleting fish from a recent fishing expedition and were disposing of some of the fish scraps off the back of boat when the croc approached from nearby mangroves," Kennedy told PerthNow. "Surrounding the boat were several sharks which had begun to circle the boat to eat the fish scraps."

The video shows a crocodile waiting among the sharks at the back of the boat.

"The huge saltwater croc approached the feeding frenzy of sharks. But it wasn't interested in the fish scraps, it just lay in the water patiently waiting...then suddenly, as a shark swam up to grab a fish scrap, the croc grabbed the shark and dragged it away to nearby mangroves," Kennedy said.

He said the witnesses were all "pretty amazed" by the brief battle.

"I've seen sharks and crocs in the wild, but I've never seen a croc catch a shark before," Kennedy said. "Everyone was pretty amazed. It's not something you see every day."
