Bear chases kids out of Tennessee backyard pool

July 24 (UPI) -- A Tennessee black bear took a break from the summer heat by going for a dip in a family's inflatable backyard pool.

Suzanne Whaley posted a video to Facebook showing the bear's visit to the inflatable wading pool in her Gatlinburg back yard.

"Well the kids literally got chased out of the pool at our 'Whaley B&B!' Mr. BEAR wanted to cool off and play with the squirt guns too!" Whaley wrote.

Whaley said the bear's visit coincided with a visit from Christelle Ribeiro, who lived with the Whaley family 23 years ago as a foreign exchange student from France.

Ribeiro, who brought her children along on the visit, said she had been hoping for a bear sighting.

"I was excited and I was really happy because I wanted my kids to see one up close, so that was great. And it was my birthday, so it was sort of my birthday gift," Ribeiro told WATE-TV.
